I agree that after such an attack, giving in and doing what the culprits want is not a good idea. It sends a message along the lines of 'Your method works. Repeat at will.'. However, what should one do, if what the attackers want is actually what you should have done long ago.
In the madrid case: Pulling out of the 'coalition of aggressors' is something spain should have done long ago. So is switching to the socialist government. However, doing it now sends a bad signal to whoever planted those bombs.
So I ask you, what should they have done? Should they stay with a government that violates the peoples trust, by sending spanish soldiers into a war that 90% of the population were against, just because the bombers want it different? |
