- The estimate of value seems a bit low-ish. Autoscout seems to be a good measure.
- Autoscout also seems to be a good view of the market.
- Depending on the relative speed of the accident (you don't provide pix) and the amount of plastic that will have to be replaced, The vehicle may, in fact, be perfectly repairable, albeit costly-to-repair.
For the main, unless you are used to doing your own repair work, have the tools, and the skills, the insurance company is probably correct. The next question, of course, is liability. Morally, as a 'wronged' party, you don't have to care and the cuase-of-the-problem is 100% liable for putting everything back to rights. However, I am given to understand that that is not quite the way, here in Europe.
With more and more brittle and expensive plastic pieces showing up on the head/tail ends of cars, repair costs are seriously escalating. In the olden days, everything was stamped sheetmetal and could be repaired in any sheet metal shop. No more! Much of those pieces are now plastic, of a sort that cannot be rebonded easily. While such pretty baubles can be cheaply mass-produced, the producers do charge a pretty penny for them. |
