Military Chain of Command Question by Illiad 2004-03-09 20:35:51
In the US Military, the Marines find occasion to serve on board US Navy vessels.

Given that the Marines and Navy have different command structures (Navy ranks aren't even remotely similar to Marine ranks), how does chain of command work? Can a Navy officer, say a LCdr, give direct orders to a Marine Lt.? Can a Marine Captain do the same to a Navy Ensign?

Thank you kindly for any insight.
