I've lost the odd application config file to a hang, but that might be the application's file reaching an inconsistent state, not the file system itself.
It seems to run fsck, from what I see, which (normally) just says something along the lines of:
Filesystem was cleanly unmounted (this, obviously, isn't the case when the system locks up!)
Filesystem seems mounted read-only: skipping journal replay
Checking internal tree...done
It seems happy enough. Just seems odd to me that it always seems to mention skipping the journal.
