ie power outtages and such and usually on reboot it tells you it needs to run the linux version of scanndisk Being redhat I'd think it already has a chron job program. Run "top" or gtop and see what it gives you. My guess is a program zombied and took some resources with it or you have an older package with some leak in it of some sort. Might help if you said which version of redhat your running, whats your basic hardware(ie processor/ram) and what your all running on it.
