...including phoenix downs, potions and using magic (cure, revive...) takes even longer (especially if you have to switch dress sphere). Plus because it's trying to be more real-time, actions can be delayed by monsters attacking. Also, some special actions also delay ATB gauge (e.g. Magus sisters can easily strike up to six times without the gauge moving one bit), so you're additionally handicapped when monster's attack halt your gauge and your simple actions don't do a thing to theirs. While your characters are busy being animated using items, the monster is already getting ready for an attack.
If you don't have full-life-anything handy, to revive one character both others have to act at the same time one with revive and the other with cure items/magic or that character is very likely to be knocked out again after revival. And with one character less, the remaining two get pounded even more and it's easier to lose a second one. And with only one living character I wasn't (so far) been able to continue on, because just after she throws a mega-phoenix, it's very likely for at least one to get killed again and the so on.
It's far easier to keep high HP, but when dangerously low, you have too much work with keeping up to focus on the battle...
Well, that's my experience anyway and I must admit I'm never very good at any game. Mediocre at best. I guess I already lost my gaming sense.
I think I'm just over 30h (rather quick progress) and now I'm trying to level up for the final battles. However, the idea of the game is that after finishing it, you start again and keep all items, levels, spheres, etc. to get to the missions you missed previously. |
