long ago. Some older equipment may still have problems - this is why it is not recommended.

AFAIK it is only the two IP addresses corresponding to the wire (all zeroes) and net (all ones) that cannot be used. But if older equipment has problems, now you know where to start looking for the cause:-)

Oh, and if you have subnets included via proxy arp, you might set yourself up for problems as well.
