Subnetting question by romandas 2004-03-09 08:36:48
Is there ever a time where you can effectively use the broadcast subnetwork (the last one created by subnetting a larger network) without subnetting it in turn?

Like 172.168.0.0/20's last subnet is 172.168.240.0/20, but it's not supposed to be immediately usable because it's the 'broadcast network', unless you subnet it further (172.168.240.0/21+).

From what I've been learning recently (ahem, yesterday/today), you can not use the all 0 or all 1 network (corresponds to the network ID, and the broadcast network) although Cisco stuff allows you to use the 0 network as well. Is there anything that let's you use the all 1's? (repeat of question above)

Any resources online that substantiate this? :) by romandas2004-03-09 08:57:50
