Bottom line: Spammers don't care how many people they annoy while they are looking for that idiot sucker who will fall for their scam. It's like the story of how roast pork was discovered in China; the first time was an accident, when a house burned down with a pig inside. After the fire, the homeowner tasted the pork and found it delicious; after that, he'd set fire to any house he found with a pig inside, in hopes of getting another taste of roast pork.
Eventually, of course, the other villagers, irritated beyond measure, tied him to his bed and burned his (new) house around him.
