| I'm assuming it's a British equivalent to the US big-rigs, but without the "fifth wheel" hinge; i.e. a VERY big straight truck. That would result in a similar blind spot, and less flexibility to check it (No "wiggle" to engage). The fellow suggesting "check your blind spots" doesn't seem to understand the limitations of the situation; short of stopping and getting out, certain areas just CAN'T be checked. >Sensible< people don't remain there. About the only exception would be dead behind, on the InterState, but ALWAYS remember the driver may not know you're there. I accept responsibility for being able to react fast enough to avoid the truck. In a small car, riding far enough back to avoid the rear blind spot generally leads to four or five OTHER yokels pulling in front of you. I don't mind not seeing around the TRUCK so much, but the bozos in the SUVs worry me more. The difference in momentum isn't as great, and I don't have NEARLY as much confidence that they >won't< do something stupid as a professional driver would avoid. |
