actually did seem to be from a Canadian military background.

If you read Swisscheese carefully, he was stating that the "stereotype" was from a small group of peopl he has dealt with from an NCO level background. I do not think he is referring to all NCO's or to all those with a military background.

I can in part agree with Swisscheese about some of the people who "graduate" from the military. But then there are pequerheads [hows that for "mod" avoidance] in every group of people. As you rightly say.
