The College Fund, which is the primary scholarship vehicle for minorities, is not a part of the government, it is a private organization. I have no problem with this organization, or any other that is based on country of origin, ethnic background, or cultural heritage. But the one linked to in this story isn't based on that. It's a "HA! Take this, minorities!" The college fund isn't run as an 'anti-white' organization. This 'scholarship' seems to have its sole existence in place as a direct insult to minority helping organizations. (Yes, I understand that the guy who started this isn't white. I know that this was started to point out injustice. But, hypocrisy doesn't make justice.)
Yes, I think affirmative action shouldn't need to be used. But, I also understand that there are still cases of bigotry and racism going on, to which affirmative action is one possible response. This isn't a protest of government-sanctioned affirmative action. It's a protest of completely non-governmental bodies. And as such, it's in bad taste. |
