Egads I hate MS SQL servers by Kickstart2004-02-10 17:09:18
Index Tuning Wizard by Hulk 2004-02-10 22:21:44
There's a tool in Profiler (SQL 2000) called the Index Tuning Wizard (under the Tools menu).

You need to record the queries and responses using SQL Profiler. They get recorded to a trace file.

This trace file is loaded into the Index Tuning Wizard and then it will analyse the tables and queries to see if there are indexes that can improve performance. It's pretty smart, as long as you choose your options with a small amount of care.

Typical MS really, read the dialogs carefully, you can always just restore a backup to reverse the changes.

Once the optimisation is complete, you should be able to save a script to apply to the production database.
