There is *no* good term for it. CPU makes linguistic sense (Central Processing *Unit*) . But CPU is also used for the main chip. Confusion. Tower is common , but totally illogical if the machine is an itsy bitsy desktop slimline device. Box is ambiguous at best . To me , computer means the whole caboodle , including monitor etc (try sitting down and doing some work at your computer without monitor and keyboard!). There just is no decent term for it. Which is downright weird after all these years. And everyone has their own terminology (Yes, modem is just absolutely wrong)
