Under XP, it will run in the notification area, and the alert will pop up in a balloon tip. These are useful because they stick around if you are away from the computer, then timeout when you get back. Clicking on it will open the relevant post.
Without XP, you will just get animation from the icon, and the tooltip will provide the alert information. Longhorn has a completely different (better?) notification model.
Does this mean you might use the other features? If you don't use Windows, how would you like it to work under Linux?
