I must say that I agree it would be cool if the average level of education was a 4 year degree. I know I'll never achieve quite to that level simply because I have no interest in doing it. I feel like if my experience isn't enough, then I probably don't want to work there anyway... I'm lazy, but that doesn't mean I'm below average inteligence, just below average education and below or average determination.
I'm much more concerned with the average inteligence of people, and where that is concerned, I like to think I'm in the upper 50% percentile range even without any college. I don't like how some people can go to 4 years of college, do really well, and still be dumb as a brick where it comes to common sence.
That said, I'll admit too that if college wasn't so expensive (averaging around 1/3 of my year's gross salary for one year of schooling) I might consider going.
I agree, up some of the standards, but allowing manufacturing and low-level jobs to dissapear is not the solution. If everyone just outsources all of these lower functions, I tend to think that our economy would be in some serious dukie. |
