Well, I downloaded the existing target practice map (linked to from the other thread), and it's just a bunch of destroyable stuff in the form of crude dummies. Once you've destroyed them all (which doesn't take long, under a minute with a flamer and a few grenades), you have to reload the map (good luck fitting THAT in the back of your Garand! =P ).
I was thinking something more, well, dynamic. Moving stuff, fighting-back bad guys, and suchlike.

I was thinking more things which could be done offline, on your own. This kinda rules out your house warfare, misc scenery, underwater fighting, and mining suggestions. Sorry bout that. The others are nice, tho.
It is possible to rebuild objects. Not the chairs so easily (but I suppose I could if I could locate the models), but windows, targets, dummies, Priceless Ming Vases, etc are all possible.
Naruki:
Unfortnately not. I may be able to fake it with some triggers that hurt you when you move through them, but it'd be voodoo mapping at best.
Automatic grenades, Panzers, and mortars are all possible.
YakkoWarner:
Yep, it'd be possible to put something together for rifle 'nades and mortars. (Not sure we want to encourage mortars, but what the hey...)
Actually, flamethrower practice sounds like A Good Plan. I have a habit of toasting myself, so that's also a possibility.
I don't think medpack or syringe training is possible on a single-player map, as there would be nothing to revive/heal. However, repairing stuff to a time limit or something might be possible.
Nickface & MajorG17:
Sure, all help is welcome. The editor is available here, but it's quite a hard slog getting into. There is a glorious lack of good help files.
I'm hopeless at making (or otherwise aquiring) textures, sounds. and the like, so I'd greatly appreciate being able to blame someone else if the map's got weird sound effects. ;]
Also, if anyone's used Milkshape, they're recruited on the spot. AFAIK it's the only 3d editor that can be used to make .md3 files, which are used as models in maps, so are very useful. (Things like the Gold Crates and Radar Parts have to be in .md3 format, as do a few other things.)
Any other comments / suggestions? I may be able to start hacking it together during the coming weekend. |
