Phoenix is now Firebird...is now Firefox? by Atrahasis2004-02-10 07:39:45
  Same reason. by Avium2006-11-19 12:55:59
it wasn't for lack of research by PsychoI3oy 2006-11-19 12:55:59
it was that (according to this) the concept of a database and browser were seperated enough it was thought that it wouldn't be stepping on the db guys' toes. apparently the db guys' toes were feeling stepped on and they made a hullabaloo about it hence the name change. also according to that faq, there's no known software to use the name firefox (redpandas are so cute) so they'll probably stick with it.

and i was just getting used to calling it firebird..... (my shortcut in windows is still called 'phoenix' though)
