I have been having BBQ's without beer for over 30 years. Only the last few years, i see people pouring BEER on a bbq. It never fries well, sometimes puts out the whole fire. As for wine: yeah, a BBQ without wine would be an awkward event (though AWK-ward would make for a nice geek-bbq) ... we never BBQed the wine though. Cognac makes beautiful bleu flames, but i like that more on a cream dessert than on a fried sausage.
