the real stuff I had(ginger wine) was quite hot... but I also found it was really good for dealing with bad colds and stuff as it had a warming effect. My roommate gets mead from someone in the sca so I could get a recipe for it. I don't have anything tho to really make it anymore. But depending on the type of vat you get it's not that expensive.(my prior gear I won in a draw and it was worth around $400 in '87)
