We DO still need to string the CEOs up by their by gonads. They're not shy about making millions while sending our piddly $50-75K a year jobs to India where they can be done for $20-30K or less per year.
I can't find it but, I posted a concern about outsourcing and how I could maybe become convinced that we might need to look into some form of regulation there. This was some time last month.
The thing is that, the conditions have been setup to lead to this over 25 years ago. The out sourcing houses have a very entrancing argument. Their people are good, the companies are reasonably trustworthy, and the cost is awesomely low (not just a little bit). I have both made money and lost money on outsourcing. I have also lost many bids, competing against them because they could make a profit by pricing a project below my cost. As a direct result I have sent work out to both Bulgaria and Lithuania. It's wash, AFAIC but, I kept the bread on the table and the roof overhead.
Does that make me evil? No it does not. I was trying to keep my company from following LavaStorm, MARCHfirst, and others, down the road of corporate dissolution. We went from competeing head-to-head with AC and PWC to seeing all our business move off-shore. After 9-11, the landscape was barren, in the SF Bay Area. It wasn't any better in Los Angeles either. Frankly, it wasn't looking good anywhere. If the only job I could get was to manage an outsourced project to India ... guess what .... I'd take it in a heartbeat.
What you're railing against is Globalization and the Internet. It isn't the fault of the CEOs that the living costs are so much lower in places like India. It isn't the fault of the CEOs that it costs nothing but a bit of bandwidth to ship a completed project back from India. It isn't the fault of the CEOs that one can operate four complete data centers, in California, from here in Switzerland (or anywhere else you've a fancy to, including India). And it REALLY isn't the fault of the CEOs that Ireland does call centers cheaper and better than anyone else, including India.
So, to blame it on ANY specific CEO is royally missing the mark and fomenting ignorance.
Now, if India were to be forced to take our workers, as well as our work, then we might have another problem. How many Americans would be prepared to work in India, at India wages? ... anyone?
To blame all of this on any cluster of CEOs, just because they are CEOs is either ignorant and/or hate-mongoring. It certainly isn't supported by the facts and I was in that business, as a CEO. I did it for seven bloody years. But then, maybe I was too honest, eh?
