High Speed Networking by amish2004-02-05 08:47:39
Go gigabit ethernet. by LurkerMo 2004-02-05 09:13:39
Learning curve - practically none. Which is why it is so popular. Popularity means it is mass-produced and hence cheaper.

The higher level protocol is still TCP/IP, so no additional learning is needed. Simply buy a Gigabit switch, and Gigabit interfaces for your cluster. The only learning you may need is how to install new drivers for your new interfaces - something that you will have to learn no matter what technology you switch to.

Gigabit ethernet runs on copper now - Cat 6 works well here, so no expensive new infrastructure should be needed for this either.
