Southpark and LDS by amish2004-02-05 07:24:19

It was "Dumb dumb dumb", but that is quibbling heh by amish 2004-02-05 08:19:54
Yeah, that is why I was currious since it was the first time I had seen it. I find the ones where they bash groups I am in to be especially funny, but I am easy like that. The one where Cartman gets a "platinum" album by becoming a Christian rock singer is hilarious. I listen to a fair amount of contemporary christian music and most of it is in fact fairly generic pop love songs with the word Jesus thrown in occasionally. There are notable exceptions of course (Rich Mullins, Nichole Nordiman, Rebecka St James, etc not that anyone cares) but the satire in that case was especially biting because it was close to home and accurate.

I don't think the Mormon episode is in the same vein, but I wasn't sure if it was on the "Yeah, it is fairly dumb and funny if you put it like that and neglect point x,y,z that most people don't know about" like most of their shows, or if it was just nasty stereotypical and wrong.

I also thought the dichotomy in the show between the masively positive depiction of the family's private life and the derision of their beliefs to be interesting. Clearly they seem to like Mormons, but dislike Mormonism.

I am really currious about fact x,y and z if they exsist and the accuracy of the story as they presented it. The bit about the hat for example sounded fairly exagerated at the very least.
