UK Ufie needs US advice by karaken122004-01-24 15:32:25
  I'd say come to Canada instead ;) (n/t) by Kickstart2004-01-24 15:42:54

Actually, it depends on where you go by Kickstart2004-01-24 15:50:54

If I was a European tourist by Kickstart 2004-01-24 16:02:34
...coming to North America, here's what I'd do:

- Fly from wherever to New York, because it's likely cheapest to fly there. Spend some time there to really 'feel' the big city.
- Train to Niagara Falls (I believe you can do this), then hop the border to Canada and head to Toronto.
- Fly to Montreal and hope that you've arrived there during some form of festival. They put a lot of effort into it there, all year round.
- Fly to Vancouver and spend at least a week there. We've got beaches in the summer and world class skiing in the winter. A very nice city.
- Fly to Los Angeles. I -hated- San Francisco because I really wanted to see the history of it and instead was assailed by the poverty and homelessness of the people there. And all the good tourist stuff is spread out all over the place. Los Angeles was a lot cooler. If you are youth hostelling it, go to San Pedro and spend a few nights there while you rent a car and look around. Other people may suggest attractions in the area.
- Fly to Texas, just to meet the redneckest of Americans :)
- Fly back to New York and spend a night or two before heading home.

That's just me though...YMMV.
