for a person who investigates the church is to learn about "the unwritten rules" that pervade our society. Of course everyone is understanding, and overlook obvious blunders, but that doesn't allay embarassment and the feeling that you a person doesn't fit in.
Part of the reason for me to look at and post these kind of things is to help myself and others in the church, to look at our society as we are seen from without, so that we can be more tolerant, and understanding.
Yes, I've do maintain that by learning about others we can understand them better. But a corollary to that is that if we understand ourselves, we can understand why people see us the way that they do. |
