And that is a great book.
I wasn't gonna mention the obvious fact that the specific actor we're talking about wouldn't be in any movies set after NJO, for those who haven't read the books yet...
And even if he writes a parallel (which he won't, because you know he'd have to use his main characters), he'd still have to make the effort to fit it into the EU continuity. Which he won't.
It's, of course, all about the money. My prime example of this is Boba Fett, who he realized was popular in the original trilogy, so he was forced to include in Episode II (completely and utterly destroying the character, grrrr...) just to "attract" all the Boba Fett fans.
What bothers me the most is the apparant lack of respect he has for anyone other than himself. The authors have respected him and his story utterly, working completely within his universe in order to make it better. Every book I've read (which is pretty much all of them) has included in the Thanks at the beginning a note to Lucas himself, thanking him for giving them this universe to work with. And he's going to completely disregard all of that, warping the universe at his whim just so he can make a few more bucks. Gah! It just irks me so much.
Sorry for going on and on about this, but I've been a huge fan of Star Wars for a long time before the prequels came out. I'd read every book, watched the movies over and over again, etc. Then the Special Editions came out and I was a bit disappointed (Greedo shooting first? WTF?), but mostly just happy for the increased digital effects. Then the prequels came out and my dreams were shattered. And when Episode II maligned one of my favorite characters, Boba Fett...well, I've pretty much lost all respect for Lucas.
