It is a law. In one of my college classes the professor was doing a demo, with student input, of some programming. When we finished the code he said if this comiles we would all get A's. So, we reviewed the code, 20 CS majors all graduating in less than a year, many already working as programmers, stent 5 minutes going over it line by line. It didn't compile. Never works on the first try.
