Oh don't start on a weekend! by crash_ 2004-01-15 11:38:36
Working takes your mind off eating sweets. At least for me. On weekends I want to cheat. If you start on Monday, then by Saturday you will not be as inclined to cheat as say Wednesday. Also, get you a measuring tape. You are going to see less weight loss and more inches lost on this diet. Its weird like that. If you always look at the scale, then it will seem like you are not losing weight. But the measuring tape will always tell the truth. :-)

Keep a food journal. It has the dual purpose of holding you accountable for what you eat as well as letting you see where you might have hidden sugar, etc.

Induction just sucks anyway. I dont' care if you are on Atkins, South Beach, Sugar Busters, etc., the first two weeks of changing your metabolism from burning carbs to burning fat is miserable. You will even have carb withdrawal syndrome as your body wants that sugar so bad. Then by week 3 you won't even notice. After a few months, when you do start eating fruit and increasing your vegetable choices, you will so appreciate them.

Atkins was right on target about one thing--avoid the trans fats and low fat foods. To make low fat taste good, the manufacturers fill it with sugar. It would put a diabetic in a coma. Use butter, not margerine and oil not shortening for cooking. Trans fats are the bad fat that you don't want and a lot of processed food has it (it just won't say on the label).

I also buy only "Designer Eggs". They are the type you see that are high in Omega 3 fatty acids which are really good for your heart (lowers cholesterol). The chickens are not fed the usual animal byproduct feed, but whole grains, flax, and kelp that causes their eggs to be more wholesome.

Just my two cents worth. I am by no means a low carb expert. I just studied this diet really well before starting.
