| Honey you don't need to worry about ketoacidosis |

Even if you went on a strict nothing but protein diet for several weeks, I don't think a HEALTHY human can generate enough ketones to go into ketoacidosis. The possibility that Krisguy is telling you is just incredibly remote. Your body's insulin just isn't going to let that happen. That is like saying that drinking too much coffee will put you into caffeine shock--can a normal human really do that to themselves? I have known only one person who could get his keto-strips to the darkest purple and that was only one time in his year of heavy dieting and exercise.
Besides, that is why you monitor your urine with Keto-strips. Not only is it a gauge to monitor if you are intaking hidden sugar, but it lets you know if you are overdoing it. If you were to get a dark purple/end of scale (and some of us would even consider you lucky for that) then just drink a glass of orange juice. That will right your system pretty quick. But again, that could only happen if you were diabetic or borderline. My grandparents were diabetics and the key sign that they had too many ketones in their urine was fruity breath. (I think even a CSI episode mentioned that once).
There are enough folks on this board doing the low carb dieting thing (myself, p.buttercup, celticess, etc.) that if you need advice, you can come to them and not feel like you are getting an infomercial. BTW, you will feel more energetic after about the first 3 days so they are right about that much :-) |
