since the 70s and I have yet to see one true documented case to support that it is going to kill you, damage your kidneys, make your hair fall out, etc., etc. My mother has been doing it since the mid 80's and she is quite healthy thank you very much. My own DOCTOR told me to cut down on the carbs in my diet! nin_man can even attest that when I do it, I am healthier. When I eat a high carb, low fat diet, I have no energy at all. By the way, you don't cut out all the carbs in Atkins. You just reduce the amount significantly. Then when you have lost your weight, you just avoid certain processed foods (which all nutritionists tell you to do) and you don't allow more than 60-80 grams/day.
For the record, I don't have a bit of trouble keeping the weight off after I stop dieting. I do however have an addiction to carrot cake, tiramasu, Godiva chocolate, and Jason's homemade cookies which has had the unfortunate effect of creating weight gain.
So lay off would you? Some of us can eat low fat, low cholesterol, balanced meals, and exercise our arses off til we are blue in the face and we are still going to be fat. Not all of us are born to be model thin and we would appreciate it if folks would be supportive of our attempts to not be obese rather than degrade them. |
