It's been around for at least 18 months. With a larger EEPROM put instead of the normal one, you can fit the whole kernel and modules onto it. Put a really big one on and you could get X launched. <10 sec boot into an X-session is perfectly possible - boot the whole thing from the BIOS EEPROM, then mount the hard disk(s) for your applications and data.
