What tore it for me was NOT the mandatory release, on DNA evidence, of a disturbingly huge percentage of Death Row residents. What clinched it, for me, was the later movement, among prosecutors and Judges, to squealch/block further DNA testing motions ... because they might result in overturning even more convictions!
The latter point was the most convincing. Those guys are bloodthirsty and justice isn't even a concept for them. A moritorium need to be placed, on the Death Penalty, until we can overhaul the legal system.
The Land of the Free has more people in jail than the entire rest of the world. Most of them are there for victimless crimes. If there is no victim, where is the crime? Most of them are there because there are laws against their behavior. What happened to the freedom to pursue your own version of happiness while not disturbing anyone else?
The legal system is not about freedom, justice, or even the American way. It's solely about lawyers winning or losing, even if they are wrong! There is something fundimentally wrong with that.
