Capital punishment should only be carried out if the convicted is absolutely, completely, and without a shadow of a doubt, guilty. There have been too many cases in which the wrong person was put to death, only to find that someone esle actually did the crime.

However, there are too many folks on Death Row (i.e. Charles Manson and the like, definitely guilty of their crimes) who are being fed, sheltered, clothed and, in my opinion, pampered, at the cost of the taxpayer. I used to be a corrections officer, and I've seen some of these "people", who've killed, raped, and brutalized others, walking around the cell block without a care in the world, due to the knowledge that prison is the worst that can happen to them. That's actually one of the reasons I quit. Sorry if I sound like a barbarian.
