...(Chinese Academic Notwork) and so we are connected to the 'net via a commercial provider, rather than the MCNE-run public education network system (anyone remember 'valve-jockeys'? - these monkeys are their descendents). As a result, we have to pay (a very reasonable amount) for connection and the connection is worth paying for (except for their stupid compulsory http proxy which I haven't got around to tunneling past yet). Wonderful to have a (broadband) connection that is no measured in hundreds of BITS per second (I'm getting up to 100s of Ks, now, and the choke is generally at the OTHER end of the 'net).
