You can have multiple DHCP servers replying to DHCP requests on a network IF THEY ARE PROPERLY CONFIGURED. They will share DHCP lease data so theyt do not get in each other's way. We have multiple DHCP servers serving addresses all over our network (we have a few class B networks that we have internally broken into class C networks or smaller). If you ever monitor the traffic from a DHCP server, you will see the request/offer/accept traffic followed by a notify message that other servers will use to update the local address pool.
