this has always been my problem, on stage and off. I always get amature singers that can't tell me what key they need. If there is a two or three note method where I can figure out what key they need then I can transpose accordingly. I would sure appreciate knowing. The last time I had some gal that wanted to sing "Stormy Monday" and the key she gave was too high for her. We had to use one of the turn-around solos to shift keys. I hate doing that, it always sounds bad. Personally, I have to transpose anything that Paul Simon writes, almost a full 5th.
