It's most likely for the idiots who bought the thing, slapped it in and started assigning IP's all over the net and cluttering it up with broadcast traffic. Had the same problem with Adelphia when the Code Red worm came out. They shut down everything incoming on port 80 because the MS-idiots had all installed MS PWS completely unprotected and were flooding each other with packets.
