Yes, the US is having issues in Iraq, but there's a LOT more going on there than just US/Iraq. By invading Iraq, we forcibly hurt at least 3 major countries not in the middle east.

We're looking at world opinion less than a year after the fact. I can almost guarantee that in 30/40 years, most people won't even care that the US invaded Iraq anymore than they care the US nuked Japan.
Assuming the US is still whole (i have my doubts ... I think we're going to split up under internal issues that have nothing to do with the Administration or the Middle East), the US will still have a huge army, and people will still be complaining about the US strong-arming countries, while much of the world is still holding out it's hands for US dollars going "Why aren't you giving us money, you imperialist dogs?!"
