I happily admit that. I'm also not a very nice person. If someone hurts someone I care about, I will hurt them. I don't go out and pick fights, but I have ended more than one fight picked with me. And I don't fight nice. My goal is that "if I do have to fight a battle, I will do my *utmost* to make sure I never have to fight that battle again". So far, it hasn't done anyone a permanent injury, but it has led to more than a few hospital visits.
I haven't started a fight since grammar school, but I won't hesitate to get involved in a fight if I think it's necessary. As to what constitutes necessary, I can't tell you. It's not something I can define neatly for you.
right now, the most "real time" example I can think of is work (haven't been in too many fights recently :). I use violence to a degree here at work. There are things that happen here that are bad. When they do, I make some discreet enquiries, and get some political backing and then do my best to fix the problem. Sometimes that force is enough, other times it's not. Such is life.
