As I've just replied in your Empires falling thread, armies come and go, countries come and go, rulers/influential people come and go, yet force remains. There's always someone trying to be stronger/more powerful than someone else.

Right now, the US is flexing it's military muscle. 50 years ago, it was Germany. 50 years from now, it may well be the EU. The US *will* fall. But whoever knocks it over will either 1) have to use force to knock it over, or b) have to use force to keep it.

Applied force is continuous. The only thing that changes is who is wielding it.
