The British did NOT want to negotiate with Gandhi - They had a superior military force, and initially refused. HOWEVER... Through non-violent force (confrontation and resistance) he brought them to the negotiating table (without raising a hand, much less firing a shot).
End result - a free India. Yes, it has many of the same political problems and issues that impact other nations, but the point is, it's a nation, not a colony. They won independence the hard way - without guns. Why is it so unrealistic to think that any other group could exhibit the same courage, leadership and commitment? |
