Clicky. Warning: Site is sloooow today. When it comes to 3DSMax-like features in a freeware tool (so far, free as in beer not as in speech, but that's planned for the future) then Blender is surely the tool of choice. It has almost everything 3DS has, is free and offers some rather good tutorials on the site. I haven't used it excessively but it was fun playing with.
