Here they did speak of the trend on tv much as they did about whatever breed that fish is from finding nemo(the striped red thing). They warned they aren't easy breeds to carefore and listed the costs if they bought one in the US and I think also the same if they did in canada. Yes I'm sure some kids requested it up here but I don't think it was such an extream drive for them. Partly due to costs and because us parents know for awhile the kids will be totally into the pet then it will be like "yea yea whatever I don't feel like feeding/washing fluffy you do it!" But yea there were shows on the news about the trends some movies sparked. Tho like I said the footage was mostly of it in the US... tho they did go out local and talk to people on the fish one. some kids did say the fish was neat but realized after being to the aquarium it wasn't so easy to care for. The vancouver aquarium did a public awareness thing on it at the time to prevent thease fish from comming in and likely dying because people couldn't handle them.
