interesting explanation. lemme see if I get this right:
the government can't explain how they cine up with the alert level because it would compromise security. because they can't explain it, we can't beleive them?
Isn't that a little paranoid? I'm sure you beleive the weather reports without bothering to verify the data yourself every single time. I think your (and Kickstarts) main problem is that you automaticaly doubt anything that comes from a government source. You assume that all info published by the government is a form of misinformation or propaganda. Well, you have to remember that these alert levels were originaly developed for GOVERNMENT use. They existed before sept 11th, but the media didn't bother reporting them back then. If you don't want to beleive them, that's up to you, but that doesn't invalidate them nor does it make them a form of propaganda as some people seem to be suggesting. And if you're looking for someone to blame, blame the media, not the government.
As to your statement that "nothing is more patriotic than questioning the government", that's the biggest load of crap I've heard in a while. You obviously understand the need for security in certain situations, so how do you expect the government to achieve 100% disclosure? It's impossible. Your constant paranoid questioning of every action carried out by every government agency serves no purpose other than giving you something to do. Humans thrive on conflict...arguments, fights, and wars against "enemies", wether real or fictional, give us a sense of purpose. In a society where most of our traditional enemies have been removed, people make up new ones to give themselves a purpose and a sense of importance. That's the whole reason for the existance of organizations like PETA, the anit-abortion movement, the "peace movement", and so on. People don't fight for those things because the issues make a massive difference in their lives, but because it makes them feel important and gives them a sense of purpose. The trend of seing a conspiracy in every government action is no different. |
