no one person gave them big eyes. that's impossible. people bred the ones that had the biggest eyes and looked the cutest, but no one person can be accused of causing the pugs unfortiunate medical condition. so how can you accuse anyone of cruelty? cruelty is a deliberate act which causes pain or suffering. even if they had known that their actions would eventually create this condition, it would have been impossbile to avoid unless every single pug breeder made a vow not to breed them selectively.
as to the current overpopulation and continued breeding...if there's an overpopulation, why is there still a demand for new pets? I don't know enough about the issue to make an informed statement, but I do understand the concept of supply and demand well enough to know that if there truly were an excessive population of house pets, breeders wouldn't be able to make any money by creating new ones. Seing as how a friend of mine recently bought a purebred terrier for close to $1000, there certainly doesn't seem to be an overabanduance of dogs. perhaps you can educate me on why the rules of supply and demand break down when it comes to pets. |
