Is incest really wrong by subbywan2003-12-21 06:36:09
I recall reading something that by Slamlander 2003-12-21 08:07:04
says that as long as the mothers are not closely related, genetically, that the incidence of abnormalities is quite low. Something about mitochondrial DNA, methinks. The buffer of the information is my wetware and the source is long forgotten, so take it for what it's worth. I read it sometime earlier this year.

What I do recall, from the article, was that sibling pairings, where the siblings shared the same father but had different mothers, were common, among the aristocracy, during the Old Kingdom period in Egypt. The Pharoh's primary wife was the Pharoh's sister(s).

I also recall that the Qur'an had similar detailed prohibitions. Specifically regarding wives (note the plural) and required degree of separation.
