LotR : RotK question [SPOILER] by MajorG172006-11-19 12:55:59
Well Merry at least, by fudje 2003-12-21 04:10:46
actuated the stroke that allowed the Witch-King (head Nāzgul) to be destroyed. He had the only sword in existance that could have unwoven the spells in his possession in fact. This may not be made clear in the film, which I haven't seen the third instalment of, and in fact skipped the part where he came into possession of this sword. Tom Bombadil gave it to him. See? It's relevant! Although only for one paragraph. That's a pretty big something. (What did Frodo do? Walked into Mordor, by sheer luck and the help of Sam not get captured, and had his finger bitten off by Gollum. Pretty much everything by accident).

Also, they were fairly responsible for the Ents storming Isengard. Which is made more evident in the film, not less. As far as I understand, Pippin had a larger role in that than Merry. Not as big, but still pretty big.
