frankly most times I avoid stepping on bugs and such... that includes the many baby slugs that come out in the spring here and there are *alot* of them. As a teen I used to feel remorse for even stepping on bugs even if they were bugs I didn't like. But anyhoo...
For disection years ago I could see why they'd do it to another living creature. Now a days I can only see it if it died of something rather unusual or if it's the only type of it that they've come across and for some reason important to the animals survival or others survival they need to do it. I believe models or computer sims can take up the slack and then live hands on at points where it's needed.(like when someones observing surgery when becomming a surgeon for example)
I don't like any animal killed for sport. That includes even things like pest type creatures like raccons. I actually feel for some of them as development forces them out of their habbitat and they try to resort to mixing with people to survive.(often ending up injured or dead or causing problems for people which can cause people injury, etc)
I do understand taking creatures life if you have no choice and it was going to kill or seriously harm you or someone you love.(and that includes other animals your fond of that normally aren't that creatures food matter) I believe in respect for animals as well. I will not presume an animals level of sentience because we still haven't figured out how to dr dolittle things(ie talk to the animals...). But anyways if we take an animals life I feel it needs to be for a reason. If we need to eat then yes but let it have some sort of reasonable life before it's time comes to go to market to be on our tables or before it is hunted. If it is killed that they try to make as much use of it as possible so it's lost life means something even it the masses don't totally appreciate it's demise. ie food, clothing, feed for diffrent speciese of animals, etc.(yes I know my comments in my other post re fashion. However there is a diffrence. Some animals like minx are often bread simply to be slaughtered to make a coat... if a leather jacket or shoes is made likely they used the whole cow ... meat for food, skin for cloths...)
If I remember alot of ancient people give thanks for the animals sacrifice. Such was the way of at least some north american indian tribes and probably other groups. They had respect for the animals and didn't waste... also the animals lived awhile and had a somewhat decient life.
As for roadkill I feel bad for them too. People will slow down and stare in some spectacle. Imagine if you were that poor thing, disoriented, thumped by a vehicle, in pain, frightened and dying alone... the two times I was involved in animal related accidents I cried. I felt awful. It was unavoidable but didn't make me feel any the less bad. One was a bird that splattered my winsheild and I nearly smashed up my car... luckily I kept the car under control but when I pulled over there wasn't any bird left just a few feathers and dampness. I couldn't put to rest what it had been so I figured nature delt with it as nature does. The other case was when I was pregnant with my daughter, it was winter, my then husband was driving and car skid out of control. We hit a lynx. Now my pet cat back then was 1/2 lynx... same markings. I felt just awful. They are such beautiful animals and normally very shy. It was startled by the lights. But I went to my moms and saw my kitty and felt awful knowing on the way there one got killed that probably was its relative. :( |
