I do believe in animal rights but they as we know go to the extream. What I was disgusted by was what they shoved into crafts books and such at our local library. One of my kids did get a glimpse of it at the time and was disturbed by it.(I'm disturbed on them giving out those other pamphlets mentioned farther down as well... I take it they see ovo-lacto's as evil because we aren't strict vegans and same goes for those that have to eat a specific diet due to health issues but anyways...) The pamphlet I saw that one day was a spoof of burger king... It showed a skinned and bloodied cows head. Yes I know they were trying to point out that some of us don't really know what happens in that process of slaughter and that is true some people really don't know. But I find it hypocritical that they protest treatment of animals in some of the ways they do such as using images like that. If they truely found them objectionable they'd not show them they'd try some more tactful methods. Thier showing that cow like that wasn't much better than this persons "art" and I use the word loosely.
I take it the artist is a taxidermist to some extent. In history usually animals hunted were mounted/stuffed/carpeted (all our ancestors at one point or another used the whole animal... food, clothing, basic survival stuff... tho yes some evolved to farming and most ended up somewhere in the middle in the end). I've been around mounted, and such animals most my life. Including when I was vegan and more strict vegitarian. I saw reasons if the whole animal was used and people needed it because couldn't afford decient balanced meals otherwise. I never did get the doing it for sport or for fashion and to some extent I found the left over animals being stuffed or rugged sad. It reminded me of why mankind needs to remember the value of life and be thankful for what is given them if they do have to take life for survival. It also reminded me of what happens when mankind goes too far as in the case of at least one animal it became extinct... and actually the animal was extinct long before I was born tho my family had a rug made from it. Now a days we can make most things artificial or make things that are enviro friendly... I do see areas of compromise.
But this artist I wonder about ... just as I do those that make embryo jewlery or use fetus art to make a statement or who encourage performance art that is harmful. Yes obviously they are going for shock value but what does it really accomplish. They get attention but also disgust but I guess they are hoping the attention will bring them fame or money. Frankly I think they should be ignored to show their behaviour isn't necisarily acceptable... Just as peta's behaviour should be ignored at points. I do think that both peta and people like this artist should also get in trouble for some of their methods. They "use" animals to project their views in both cases. This artist isn't using roadkill animals, animals that were used for food, or anything like that. Thease were likely a pet that they got specific for this purpose. As for peta they even turn off some vegans and pro animal rights people with their extreamism...
Anyways that is my babble on this topic... I'm tired and incredibly sore(and the pain killers just aren't cutting it again and I don't feel like going to the hospital so I'm trying to grin and bear it.) |
