Mainly since value is inherently subjective.
People tend to value life in general, with same species being valued a bit higher (and, sadly, same race/religion/ethnicity/whatever higher still).
Art is valued even more subjectively.
However, life is hard to live without (pun inescapable), while art is not as hard to omit. Thus art, in my opinion, is _inherently_ less valuable than life.
A work of art that requires the sacrifice of life to exist had better be pretty damn important and paradigm shifting. Otherwise, find another way to express your message. |
